Trains, TGV , Fast Trains  

TGV is the fast train of France. These trains can travel at 180 mph.   Five of the eight Paris train stations serve TGV trains

The best savings results when you buy tickets three months in advance. To buy tickets online use these websites

In the drop-down menu list your country of origin as Antarctica, otherwise the site will switch to Rail Europe, an English language sales division of sncf,  and you may not get the lowest price or see all the trains offered.

Train departures and arrivals will be announced on lighted boards at the foot of the tracks
 Ticket availability will be announced three months in advance. At that time first class tickets might be only slightly higher than second class tickets.
Buy tickets in the train stations at automated machines with credit card or use customer service ticket booths at the stations by using cash or credit card. 
TGV Trains fill on popular routes.  It is best to book ahead of your trip.   Second class TGV Train tickets will sell out on popular routes during the summer   Second class cars are comfortable with luggage space and bathrooms.  Seats are reserved in second class.  All seating on TGV trains is assigned when you purchase your ticket.  

Luggage

TGV trains provide space for hand luggage and will accept skis in bags, bikes in bike travel bags, and some water sport equipment.
Luggage space is self serve at the front of the car for larger bags, in the middle for medium sized bags, and in the overhead for small bags. All luggage must be labeled with the owners name and address.
Conventional trains (slow trains) provide similar luggage space 
Bikes
Some conventional train routes provide a bike rack.  
Bikes can travel on TGV if they are in a bike bag They travel as hand luggage

Train Service, Paris and London

Trains run from London's St Pancras Station through the tunnel to Gare du Nord in Paris. A new service goes direct from St. Pancras to Avignon through Lyon. Round trips or one way available.  This is a seasonal train.  Fast trains run Paris to London from Paris (station) Gare Du Norde 
Food service is available aboard TGV trains. The dining cars accept cash (Euros) or credit cards (for payments of €5 and over) (American Express)
 Transfer

The train stations in Paris offer tickets sales with automated
 machines and staffed ticket counters.  Below the station find the 
Metro or RER connection
Conventional trains in Paris reach distant cities not served by TGV fast trains.

RER Trains

RER trains run routes through Paris to outlying destinations such as Versailles and CDG Airport.
RER trains run to Paris from CDG and offer the least costly transfer option.  There may be no elevator in the RER station in Paris, however, so consider this if you are traveling with heavy luggage.   Other options exist such as the Air France bus to Montparnasse, the shared van transfer, and the most costly option, the taxi. (55 € to 75 €)
RER-B from CDG Airport reaches many stops in Paris. RER from CDG airport cost 9.25€
